Officer Decides Not To Arrest Boy Stealing Socks, Buys It For Him Instead

Tina Tropeano sent me this story which prioritizes empathy over all else, and that is beautiful.

So in Mount Vernon, New York, a homeless man was caught shoplifting a pair of socks from a Dollar Tree.

Officers Christopher Cartwright and Jason Velez responded to the store’s call, and recognizing the scope of the full situation, decided not to arrest him. Instead, Officer Cartwright bought him 15 pairs of socks.

Then, Officer Velez told the man please- if you need anything in the future, stop by the police headquarters if he needed help.

I will take stories of police officers stepping beyond their job to help someone every day, so thank you Tina!
