Chappell Roan is leaving her unhealthy habits in the past.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess musician appeared as a guest on the April 16 episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, chatting with hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers about everything from dealing with fame to raising guinea pigs. One topic of conversation was the habit she recently gave up because she felt like she was "going crazy." The 27-year-old pop superstar revealed that she gave up caffeine a few months ago as it was affecting her health.
"I was, like, already too anxious, and so, I was like, if I want to actually calm down I have to take every stimulant away. Every stimulant," she said, amending her statement to say that she is still taking prescription medications for her mental health. "Let me say that with as asterisk. I'm on a lot of f---ing drugs though."
After Yang noted that the drugs aren't recreational and Rogers asked if she's an "SSRI queen," a reference to the class of antidepressant medication known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, Roan said she's on "the cocktail," a collection of meds used to treat bipolar and other disorders, per People.
"Yeah. I've got my — I also have insomnia. So, like, and I'm bipolar. So it's like really hard if you are not sleeping and doing weed," she said, clarifying that she's not totally against recreational drugs. "I do love an edible. I do love shrooms."
While giving up caffeine was better for her health in the long run, the "Good Luck, Babe!" singer admitted that kicking the habit wasn't easy.
"It's really hard. Quitting caffeine sucks for four weeks straight," she said. "Then you're okay."
On Las Culturistas, Rogers and Yang "get into the hottest pop-culture moments of the day" and even hang out with special guests like Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Tate McRae, Charli XCX and Cynthia Erivo, to name a few. Check out more episodes of the Las Culturistas podcast at iHeart.com.
