Another Season has been Cancelled...Diet Season!

Every year, I enjoy all the foods I love during the winter months. Pizza, chicken wings, pasta, bread, butter, cheese, bacon and many others! I also stop working out. What is the point? Also, every year, the Monday after the Super Bowl I begin my "diet season" which typically lasts through my summer vacation in late August/early September. Diet season includes eating healthy and also working out. This year with Covid-19, I'm already giving up so much. I can't hang out with my son. I can't go out to eat. I can't even go to church. Therefore, I'm having a hard time dieting.

When this all began, I was certain my days were numbered. All I wanted was comfort food, despite it being "diet season." My thought was, "If I'm going to die, why should I deprive myself of the things I enjoy in this life?" Ultimately, I didn't stray from my diet too much, but for three days straight I ate a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. It was so good. I even ate Velveeta cheese, which is definitely a diet no no!

Since then, we've bought a lot of non-perishable foods to sustain us for as long as the "stay at home" order continues. I've stopped eating my grilled cheese sandwiches and instead have been eating canned chicken, rice, and vegetables. I'm also walking most nights with my husband. I haven't touched the weight set in the basement since this all began. Well, I've been working a lot more!! Just an excuse, I know. We did go on one of our 16 mile bike rides though, and it kicked my butt. I'm so out of shape!

Currently, I'm only half dieting with the foods we have and my fried fish dinners on Friday for Lent. I have a feeling when this is all over, I'm going to be very mad at myself. I'm confident that even if I get infected I will survive. So, when it comes time for vacation and I don't feel confident wearing a bikini on the beach I will be very unhappy. However, my struggles pale in comparison to what so many others are going through.

Stay safe, stay healthy, be kind, and don't pick your nose!
